Metro Art Presents: Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith | Gifted & Blessed

On Friday, March 3, 2017 the Arts department of the Los Angeles Metro presents an evening with Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith. This will take place in Union Station’s Historic Ticketing Hall. Doors open at 8 PM and the show starts at 8:30.

Her music is a unique blend of rhythmic patterns and melodic pulses, inspired by Kaitlyn’s time spent on Orcas Island in Washington state. According to the event, her work “her creative work continues to be infused with and inspired by the vitality and serenity of Orcas.” Gabriel Reyes-Whittaker, known as Gifted & Blessed, will also play his music before Kaitlyn performs.

This event is free to attend, no reservation required. But seating is first-come, first-serve. Check Facebook or their website for more information.

 

LA Art Book Fair

Geffen Contemporary at MOCA is hosting their 5th annual LA Art Book Fair from February 23 to 26, 2017. This unique event gives artists displays books, art catalogs, zines, and more for three and a half days, giving artists a chance to share their work. This event is free and open to the public.

If you want a special experience, you can purchase VIP tickets ($10 each) for a preview on February 23rd that includes access to the displays and a special musical performance.

Public hours for the display:

  • Friday, February 24, 2017: 1 PM to 7 PM
  • Saturday, February 25, 2017: 11 AM to 7 PM
  • Sunday, February 26, 2017: 11 AM to 6 PM

¡LUNCHTIME! at Grand Park

Grand Park in Downtown Los Angeles has a variety of lunchtime activities that are free* to enjoy.

Activities include:

  • Writing Meetups
  • Yoga
  • Food Trucks
  • Concerts

Check their online calendar for which activities are offered each day. Most lunchtime events are scheduled through the end of May. And Grand Park is easily accessible by Metro Red and Purple lines.

*Food trucks are not free. But it is a good way to try some new cuisine from local chefs.

Union Station Tango Party

You can spend your Valentine’ Day learning a dance of love! Free tango lessons will be offered at Union Station on February 14, 2017, followed by social dancing (milonga). Music will be provided by a live orchestra – Tangótico, led by Matias Piegari. Carlos Barrionuevo and Mayte Valdes will also dance for the audience.
