24th Street Theatre Dia de los Muertos Festival


The 24th Street Theatre is hosting their 11th Annual Dia de los Muertos festival on November 2, 2016 from 6 PM to 10 PM.

There will be live performances from:

Trio Ellas
The Space Sanchos
Ballet Folklórico Sol de Fuego
Mariachi Guadalajara
Danza Azteca Huitzilopochtli
La Catrina Guapachosa on Stilts (Ismael Ramírez)
Compañía Tierra Blanca Arts Center

Make sure to bring a flashlight to wave during the procession that kicks off the event, which will take place between Hoover and Magnolia starting at 6 PM.

South LA Power Fest


On Saturday, September 3, 2016 there will be a festival in South LA to empower citizens and educate them on important issues. Event runs from 1 PM to 8 PM.

Families are welcome at the festival, which will include live musical performances, as well as art booths, food trucks, election resources, health resources, yoga, and more.

The event is free, but organizers ask attendees to RSVP on their website.

Free Workshop at CAAM in Exposition Park


The California African American Museum is hosting a free workshop on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at 2 pm. “Messages from the Grassroots” will allow participants to design their own magazine cover with a socially conscious message in the style of artist Milton Bowens.

His work is currently on display at CAAM.
